Piper augustum
Diagnostic description:Can grow up to 2m tall.
Stems are reddish in color with white spots.
Leaves are large, eathery and ovoid in shape.

Herbivores:This information is based an ongoing project dedicated to the inventory and dissemination of information on lepidopteran larvae, their host plants, and their parasitoids in an Ecuadorian montane cloud forest.
N=38 herbivore associations as of 2012.

Larval lepidopteran herbivores reared in Napo Province, Ecuador (Yanayacu Biological Station and Center for Creative Studies).

Geographic Range:Piper augustum variations are found from southern Mexico to Paraguay.

Altitudinal Range:This variation of P. augustum is found around 1600m in elevation (based on CAPEA rearings).
Distribution:Larval lepidopteran herbivores were collected from P. augustum in Napo Province, Ecuador (Rio Quijos near Borja).
File:Uses:It has been reported that Piper augustum is used for ethnobotanical purposes by the Untsuri Shuar people of the Ecuadorian Amazon (see attached pdf).
